Refresh Your Home For Spring With These 5 Easy Steps

A change of season is always the perfect time to treat your home to some extra TLC – and with the warmer weather slowing making its way back, now’s the time to get ready for Spring by dusting off and bringing new life back to your home!

Kick off your Spring cleaning with our go-to list of things to give your home a quick refresh.

Filter check

With the extra time spent inside over the past 6 months, our rangehoods and air vents have been getting a bit of an extra work-out. By giving them a clean you’ll keep them looking good and working optimally. All you’ll need to do is wipe the air vent covers with a wet cloth and some hot soapy water, making those pesky dust bunnies disappear and keeping the air vents looking fresh.

For your rangehood vents, just remove the filters from the hood and leave to soak in a sink with very hot water, baking soda and some dish soap. After a 10-15 minute bath, these will be ready for a light scrub and a rinse and ta-dah! They’ll be back to their former glory.

A touch of Spring

Just in case you needed another excuse to buy some new homewares, this is it. Brightening up your home can be easily achieved with lighter colours and textures like linens, soft pastels and more natural elements.

If you’re in need of some inspo and have a spare 20 minutes (that will turn into more like 2 hours) just go to Pinterest or Insta Reels – there’s heaps of creators at the minute showing us how-to’s, DIY’s and where to find the latest on trend pieces.

Moving the furniture can also be one of the easiest ways to update a room. Sometimes a simple adjustment not only changes the look of the space, but how you use it too. I know someone who has a Winter and a Summer layout for their lounge, because the focus of the room changes with the seasons.  Alternatively, you can always change things up by moving decor around and bringing items from one space to another part of the house. Switching up the way pieces are styled or items that are paired together can bring a touch of difference without the price tag.

Lights Up

Lighting completely changes the vibe of a room. As the days start to get longer and the sunshine brings in more natural light, switching from moody lighting to accent lighting can revamp your main living spaces. Look for lamp shades or pendants that highlight the room’s natural light and features, instead of the warmer shades typically used in winter.

Swapping out light shades with something more seasonal doesn’t have to be expensive – with either a Kmart run or trip to Ikea, you’re sure to find something fresh, on trend and relatively cheap.

Clean the gutters

Look, it’s not the prettiest or most fun job but it does need to be done… because leaking gutters and overflows that cause structural damage are even less pretty and fun. Whether you knock it out yourself on a Saturday afternoon or get a professional in for the job, clearing out any debris and build up will ensure your gutters are ready and working for any heavy rainfall over the next few months.

Backyard revamp

Pull off the covers and plump the cushions, entertaining season is nearly here and when we can again everyone is in need of some well-deserved catchup’s with their family and friends. Making the outside space more inviting can be done with little touch ups like washing the windows, clearing any cobwebs and giving the garden a tidy. Pruning back any overgrown plants, shrubs or flowers will encourage new growth over Spring and help to give your garden a more polished look.

If the outdoor furniture has started to fade or is looking a little shabby, consider a touch of paint and some new cushions or coverings. For those with a deck, consider re-staining or oiling it – it does take a little more effort but can really give the outside area a face lift (Hint: If you’re thinking of re-staining and will need to sand back the wood, check out Bunnings for their drum sander hire or hire a high pressure hose!). If you are thinking of adding a dramatic statement, dark charcoal or black is an on-trend way to elevate everything if your outdoor space, and makes any greenery really stand out.

Getting your outdoor living area tidy and prepared for the warmer weather will bring an extra spark to your home’s exterior but also mean you can get the most out of the space to enjoy the longer days in the sun.
